Through our Coloring Futures initiative, Yours Humanly funds ESL instruction to our Yours Humanly scholars, who are enrolled in their local schools through our K-12 Scholarship Program and who learn English while furthering their studies in their native languages. Now, double congratulations are in order for our new Yours Humanly graduate! We are thrilled to announce the achievements of this young Yours Humanly scholar who has completed her high school education through our K-12 Scholarship Program, earning her high school diploma! At the same time, she has completed all 12 levels of ESL instruction, funded by Yours Humanly, also earning her ESL program diploma and marking her fluency in the English language!

While she was attending Beltei International School in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, through our Scholarship Program, and studying in her native Khmer language, we also enrolled her in ESL classes at Beltei so she could learn English while furthering her general studies. The importance of her efforts and accomplishments are profound: English is the language of international communications, allowing people who speak English to connect and work with others on a global stage. Congratulations to this young scholar, whose K-12 education and enhanced opportunities in life are made possible through the kindness and generosity of Yours Humanly supporters.

We express our sincere thanks and gratitude to all the Yours Humanly 2023 Break a Sweat for Education® 5K sponsors, participants, volunteers, and attendees. Thank you for making our 9th annual 5K a huge success!

Throughout the morning’s activities and the race itself, we captured fantastic images which can be found here. Chip timing was provided by Golden State Race Timing, and you can find 5K race results here.

Thirteen precious Yours Humanly scholars in Hinche, Haiti, have graduated kindergarten and have now started first grade. Through our Yours Humanly K-12 Scholarships program, we are supporting these young scholars’ education by covering the full costs of tuition, uniforms, mid-day meals, books, study materials, school supplies, and all other educational needs from placement through 12th grade graduation. This is an exciting time for our scholars! We’re thrilled to support them and we wish them the very best as they continue their educational journey!

We are deeply grateful to the City of Concord, California, for its generous grant to Yours Humanly in the amount of $213,000. The funds will benefit more than 4,000 students across ten Concord elementary schools through the Yours Humanly Literacy Program.

While classrooms are considered homogeneous for grade level, they are heterogeneous for reading ability—that is, within a grade, students are at different points in their reading skills. To promote early literacy and grade level proficiency, Yours Humanly will provide picture books, chapter books, leveled reading books, and bilingual books for students and classrooms in need, and host on campus Family Literacy nights to encourage parent engagement and reading at home.

Our Yours Humanly 2023 Gift of Schooling Gala® was an amazing night of fun and fundraising! Thank you to those who attended and made the night so special with your presence and participation! For those who could not attend, you were missed, but we do recognize your contributions and support.

Deeply grateful to all our sponsors who made this event possible. A special thanks and shout out to Miss California Catherine Liang, who did a fabulous job as our emcee, and to guest speaker John Sasaki, Communications Director, Oakland Unified School District, for sharing his kind thoughts about our partnership with the District on behalf of students in need.
