Jaylen Sanchez, 7, of Pittsburg, California, was recognized at our 2017 Gift of Schooling Gala held Friday, March 31, at the Blackhawk Automotive Museum in Danville, CA. Assemblywoman Catharine Baker, 16th District, presented Jaylen the first Yours Humanly Children Have the Power to Empower Award! Jaylen set up a free lemonade stand and donated all voluntary contributions, totaling $1,400, to local children in need. She was recognized for her outstanding act of goodness.

We are happy to announce that Assemblywoman Catharine Baker, 16th District, will take to the stage at the Yours Humanly 2017 Gift of Schooling Gala to hand Jaylen Sanchez, 7, of Pittsburg, California, the first Children Have the Power to Empower Award! Jaylen set up a free lemonade stand and donated all voluntary contributions, totaling $1,400, to local children in need. She is being recognized with the award for her outstanding act of goodness.

Jaylen Sanchez, 7, of Pittsburg, California, is the Yours Humanly Children Have the Power to Empower Award’s first recipient. She will be recognized at our 2017 Gift of Schooling Gala, to be held Friday, March 31, at the Blackhawk Automotive Museum in Danville, California, and emceed by CBS Channel 5 anchor Juliette Goodrich.

Sanchez is receiving the Children Have the Power to Empower Award for setting up a free lemonade stand in her front yard and donating all the money she raised through voluntary contributions-which totaled $1,400-to children in need. She donated money toward uniforms and backpacks for a local shelter; school supplies and backpacks for needy students at her school; scholarships for students who are not able to pay for catechism at her local church; and the purchase of food for the homeless.

We are thrilled to announce the launch of a first of its kind award that recognizes children across America for their outstanding acts of goodness!

The Children Have the Power to Empower℠ Award showcases children and their outstanding acts of goodness in a meaningful way, and gives them a platform to connect, share their stories, and see what others are doing to make a difference.

We are pleased to announce that Assemblywoman Catharine Baker, 16th District, will be a guest speaker at our 2017 Gift of Schooling Gala.

A hallmark of Assemblywoman Baker’s work is her focus on education – one of her four legislative pillars. As the daughter of a schoolteacher, she is passionate about education and believes, as we do, that education is a basic human right. She partners with colleagues across party lines to see that all children are afforded opportunities to receive quality education in safe and nurturing environments.

The holiday season is a time of celebration. At Yours Humanly, we celebrate our generous donors, supporters, and volunteers who aid us in our mission to empower the world’s most vulnerable children through access to education. We have made great strides supporting our local communities as well as children in five countries. We have so far served over 1,600 children and we are on-target for incremental growth in the year ahead.

When we raise our glass to the new year, we will reflect on the children we’ve helped and strive to empower more children in 2017. We wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season!

We are pleased to announce that CBS 5 Anchor and News Reporter Juliette Goodrich will be our emcee at our 2017 Gift of Schooling Gala. An Emmy award-winning reporter, Juliette joined CBS 5 in 1997 and has performed a variety of anchoring and reporting assignments, covering a wide variety of local and national stories. She is currently the weekend nighttime anchor.

Juliette is involved in many community organizations and is also the author of five children’s books. A Bay Area native, Juliette and her husband live in the East Bay with their three children.
