Put a Stop to Child Marriages

Every day 37,000 girls under the age of 18 are getting married worldwide. Girls who are married before the age of 18 are more likely to experience domestic violence and to contract HIV. The highest cause of death for girls aged 15 through 19 is childbirth, and most of the babies born do not survive either.

The main causes of child marriage are poverty and lack of education. Where girl children are less likely to attend school, they are more than often married off at a young age – for the sense of financial security obtained from the marriage. Child marriage is a continuous cycle of poverty and gender inequality if not stopped.

Yours Humanly’s mission to provide underprivileged children in underserved communities access to quality education is a great step to prevent child marriages. Yours Humanly works in many countries around the world – including India, which currently has the highest number of child marriages. Girls with higher levels of education are less likely to get married at a younger age, and are more likely to obtain jobs and gain independence.

With your support to Yours Humanly, more girls can get access to the education they need to reach their highest potential!
