Yours Humanly enjoyed mixing up our traditional Family Literacy Night format by holding two literacy events during the school day at Ygnacio Valley Elementary School in Concord, CA. We ordered more than 1,400 books for both student distribution during class hours and for a school library refresh. Principal Armenta’s goal was to make sure every student present on the days of the events went home with a new book or two. We also assembled and distributed tote bags with activities that could be completed at home with parents and siblings, including quizzes, games, trivia, and reading challenges. The two-year Yours Humanly Family Literacy Night project, which concluded in June 2025, benefited more than 4,000 students in ten Concord elementary schools served by Mt. Diablo Unified School District. This project was made possible through our Coloring Futures initiative and by a generous grant from the City of Concord. View photos.
