In September, Yours Humanly hosted a Family Literacy Night at Mountain View Elementary School in Concord, California, a TK–5 school serving approximately 260 students. The event was made possible by a generous grant from Farmers Insurance.
Early literacy is a key focus of our Coloring Futures initiative. Strong reading skills build the foundation for academic success and language development, and our Family Literacy Nights encourage children to read at home while bringing parents into their learning.
Students participated in fun educational activities, parents read with their children, and the school librarian read a chapter aloud to the kids. The principal, teachers, librarian, and members of the Yours Humanly team joined families for the evening, which also included dinner.
Yours Humanly distributed 380 books, featuring eight titles selected by the school’s teachers and librarian. The kids were especially excited to receive a book of their own to take home and keep.
We are deeply grateful to Farmers Insurance for their generosity and partnership in helping us put hundreds of books into the hands of children and bring families together around reading. View photos.
If you believe, as we do, in the power of early literacy, please donate today to help us continue reaching children in need with the gift of books.
