Our Impact

When you donate to Yours Humanly, your contributions reach far beyond village, county, state, and national borders. Once we have touched the life of a child, the impact is evident in that child’s life wherever he or she may journey. And, our work changes not only the life of that child, but that of the child’s family, community, and world forever.

In the stories below, you’ll see how we transform lives, educate and empower, break the cycle of poverty, set children on a positive path, and restore hope and brighten futures through the power of education. In doing so, we help children realize their true potential. We can only do this with your continued support and generous donations.

OUR GLOBAL IMPACT

Flood Relief in Kerala, India

India 2018

Recently, there was a large flood disaster in Kerala, India. The Yours Humanly team responded, traveling thousands of miles to assist the children, families, and schools that lost everything. Two schools in particular were badly affected in the Ernakulam District, and needed immediate help. Yours Humanly funded everything from infrastructure repairs, to clothes and shoes, to books and other educational supplies. We also met a need for donated kitchen utensils to continue the school lunch programs.

Both schools received new computers, a library, play structures outside, and much more. The young students in Kerala belong to an extremely impoverished community, and many are in labor-class fisherman families, so they were in dire need of support. Yours Humanly is always at the ready to assist people in times of crisis, no matter the distance. Thank you to everyone who has donated to this effort and helped to re-stabilize the families in Kerala. We are grateful for your generous and continued support.

Family STEAM Night

United States 2018

Yours Humanly supported an educational program at Rio Vista Elementary School, where we had previously donated books. The school puts on an event called STEAM Night and welcomes families to join their students in participation. The focus is on parent involvement, and teaching students innovation and critical thinking skills. STEAM stands for “Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math,” and represents the core tenets of curriculums around the country, based on real-world applications. If you would like to help fund similar projects at other low-income elementary schools and encourage young students to get involved in STEAM, please donate today.

A Book for Every Student at Rio Vista Elementary

United States 2018

Anyone who grew up reading (whether by choice, or by school requirement) surely remembers the role those books played in crafting their worldview, improving their intelligence, and delighting their imaginations. At Rio Vista Elementary School in Bay Point, CA, there were nearly 500 students without access to books. That is unacceptable in a world where reading and learning is more important than ever.

So, Yours Humanly decided to do something about it. We donated 600 books to Rio Vista; more than enough to provide each of those students with at least one book of their own. They were thrilled to learn that they’d each be receiving a book, which will now be sent home for each child during parent-teacher conferences. We are delighted to have made an impact in this community.

Computers, Printers, and Books for Students in Bay Point, CA

United States 2018

At Bel Air Elementary School in Bay Point, CA, many students are still learning English, and most parents speak very little. It’s a low-income, diverse area, and having the accessibility to proper learning materials is essential to the success of these young students. So, Yours Humanly donated Spanish-English books with both languages. Now, the students can read and learn in either language, and their parents are also able to read to them.

Additionally, the school was in dire need of an update to their community center. In today’s technological age, it’s imperative that students have access to computers, printers, and the Internet. By donating computers and printers to that community center, Yours Humanly has ensured that Bel Air Elementary students and their parents have access to computers.

Bilingual Books to ESL Students in Concord, CA

United States 2018

Though exceedingly rare in the United States, being bilingual is a natural part of many peoples’ upbringings; especially for those of foreign descent who have immigrated to America in hopes of pursuing a better life. At Yours Humanly, we like to support the sacrifices made by those moving to an unfamiliar land, and wanted to help.

At Sun Terrace Elementary School in Concord, CA, there are several students who have recently enrolled at the school but who do not speak English yet. To make it easier for them and their families, these English as a Second Language students were gifted books in both English and Urdu, which is similar to Hindi and spoken in parts of India, Pakistan, and Fiji. The donation from Yours Humanly should help these students adequately prepare for school and succeed!

Cambridge Elementary Receives Books in Multiple Languages

United States 2018

We have seen a large influx of immigrant families arriving in California, then enrolling their children in schools, but watching them struggle with speaking English. In Concord, CA, that is certainly the case at multiple Elementary Schools. At Cambridge Elementary, there are students who speak Spanish or Dari (one of the major languages in Afghanistan) at home.

Learning another language is difficult enough without the added pressure of doing so in a fast-paced school setting. To offset this, Yours Humanly has donated bilingual books in both Dari-to-English and Spanish-to-English at Cambridge. This should help ease the students’ struggles in the classroom and allow parents better access to help them with homework.

Backpacks and School Supplies for Students in Hinche, Haiti

Haiti 2018

At Center of Hope School in Hinche, Haiti, students are in desperate need of donations to continue their education. The students there come from impoverished backgrounds with families that cannot even afford to put them through school. Clearly, most of what they have is donated to them, and we wanted to play a role in helping them succeed.

Yours Humanly traveled to Hinche and distributed backpacks to the students, as well as other essential school supplies that will help them continue their education. Achieving a decent education is difficult enough in places affected by poverty without the burden of having to rely on outside assistance for learning tools. We are proud to have made a difference at Center of Hope School, and look forward to seeing how the students progress now that they have the proper materials in hand to succeed.

Computer Education for Students in Oakland, California

United States 2018

Affording proper supplies can be difficult in low-income schools – that’s why we do what we do at Yours Humanly. We teamed up with the Oral Lee Brown Foundation in Oakland, CA, to fund the purchase and placement of computers and peripheral equipment. This donation was made under our Bridging Gaps program, which aims to empower young students in impoverished areas by providing them the necessary tools needed to succeed in school. The Oral Lee Brown Foundation offers educational assistance and mentoring to underprivileged children in the Oakland area.

As important as having the tools needed for learning is having the proper mentor in place for the students. So, Yours Humanly will also be placing an instructor who teaches computer science and coding. We are excited about this implementation and look forward to watching young minds progress with proper tutelage and supplies in place.
